Garner Lake Association
Lakeland, TN U.S.A.
Garner Lake is the largest lake in Shelby County TN and is located in the center of Lakeland TN.  Lakeland began as an amusement park and recreation area with Garner Lake as its centerpiece.  The amusement park closed in 1976 and luxury homes were built around the lake.  There are currently six subdivisions with lakefront lots, one of which is still in the development stage.

Garner Lake is private, and for the exclusive use of residents of Lakeland Estates, East Shores, Windward Slopes, The Pointe & The Preserve.

Lakeland TN was incorporated as a city in 1977.

TAXES

Lakeland operated for 35 years as a "no services" city with no city property tax.  Lakeland now has a property tax.

Lakeland residents also pay Shelby County property taxes and a 9.75% local/state sales tax on purchases.  The local portion of sales taxes are returned to the CIty.

GOVERNMENT

Lakeland has a City Manager form of government...one of a few of those in Tennessee.  An elected Mayor & Board Of Commissioners appoint the City Manager, who runs the day to day operation of the City.  For detailed information about the City, visit the official website of the CIty of Lakeland http://www.lakelandtn.gov/
